Spiritual direction is a ministry in which a trained person assists another person in the search for an ever closer relationship of love with God and themselves.  In a spiritual direction partnership, both persons share a belief in the reality of the spiritual and agree that a relationship to this spiritual realm is life's primary purpose.

One of the major assumptions for the practice of spiritual direction is that God communicates directly with individual people. This communication is brought to awareness in personal reflection and contemplation. Dialogue about this communication encourages growth. Spiritual direction provides an opportunity and environment for this dialogue.

The director's role is as 'mid wife' to this dialogue. He/she helps a person notice how God's presence is shown in their life and assists them to consider how they might respond to that presence.

People committed to discovering the presence of God  in their life often find the process of spiritual direction beneficial.

The process is available to persons of any Christian denomination; also to those with no Christian affiliation, however they are genuinely pursuing  an intimacy with God.

The ministry team at the Emmaus Centre are trained and experienced spiritual directors.
